Easy Diaper Cake Directions - Make Your Own at Home

Diaper cakes make great baby shower gifts. They can be personalized for any baby, make great table centerpieces, and after the shower, the new mom can use the "ingredients" when the baby arrives. They're the perfect gift!

If you're not familiar with these creations, the first thing you should know is they're not edible. You'll still need to get a real cake for the shower! Diaper cakes are really just a collection of diapers that have been arranged and stacked to look like a tiered cake, and then they're decorated with bottles, toys, and other baby goods to make it personal, colorful and useful.

Diaper cakes can be from one to four tiers, although larger cakes are more difficult to create or more expensive to buy. But no matter how big they are, diaper cakes are always popular baby shower gifts.

If you want to make your own, here's how to make a simple two-tier cake. You'll need about 35 diapers, some ribbon and some small baby toys, lotion, bottle, or other baby goodies.

1. Roll each diaper and tie it with a piece of ribbon.
2. Create the bottom tier by gathering about 25 diapers together and tying them with a ribbon.
3. Create a second tier with about 10 diapers and tie them with ribbon.
4. After stacking the tiers together, take out the central diaper in the top tier and replace it with a baby bottle or small stuffed animal.
5. Stuff baby toys, rattles, lotion, shampoo or other baby goodies in the rolled diapers. For larger items, you may remove some diapers, but be careful not to remove too many and destroy the tiered cake effect.
