There is no joy comparable to that felt by a parent when watching their child giggling and laughing. For this reason, many parents spoil their child unnecessarily, particularly when it comes to baby toys. Consider the following, however, before you buy.
Size Matters
There must never be a compromise on safety for the sake of entertainment value. Choosing toys that are smaller, comprising tiny little parts poses a very real threat of choking to your child who, in trying to discover new unidentified objects, instinctively puts them in her mouth. Try to aim for toys that are solid, in one piece, with few or no joins.
Physical Composition
When choosing baby toys, it is important to inspect them carefully. Have a look at what the toy is made of. If it is a hard material, such as wood, metal, or plastic, check to ensure there are no rough surfaces, sharp edges, or protruding pieces. Make sure there are no pointed sections that could poke out an eye. And for musical toys, check to see what the volume levels are as some louder toys could inadvertently damage a baby's sense of hearing.
Softer baby toys are much more suitable as the majority are washable. Indeed, given the choice between a toy which is washable and one that is not, always choose the washable one. Soft toys also reduce the risk of getting scratches, cuts, and abrasions.
Additionally, things to look out for also include long strings or loops which pose a threat of strangulation.
Chemical Composition
It is a well-known fact that babies love to put everything in their mouths. Bearing this in mind, make sure that the toys you buy are free from phtalates and other toxic chemicals found within some plastic items. Additionally, lead in paint is very dangerous to small children, so you should be aware of whether or not the coating of your toys uses lead in the paint.
Instead of spending your days fraught with worry, with adherence to safety information and care when choosing your baby toys, you and your baby can enjoy many, many days of happiness and laughter.
